Alex Del Real

Alex Del Real graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in 2005, specializing in Fashion Design.  Alex was exposed to fashion at an early age.  Both of her parents met each other in the garment factories of the early 80's.  She loved visiting the apparel factories with her parents and would swoon over the old fashion magazines her mom used to bring home after the designer at work threw them out.  She knew she wanted to continue in her parents path, not on the production side but on the creative side.  Her parents reluctantly agreed to send her to fashion school, knowing if all else failed .... she'd at least have security as a pattern maker.

Alex enjoyed her time at Otis and applied for any scholarship she could get.  She graduated with Honors and made life long friendships.  While attending college, Alex interned at Obey Clothing, working with Shepard Fairey's artwork to create graphic tees and street wear apparel.

Over the course of years since she graduated, she's worked in various markets ranging from premium denim, knit wear, action sports to active wear.   She's had the opportunity to work with domestic manufacturers along with several overseas factories.  Alex travels to Asia a few times a year to work directly with factories, source materials and shop the international market, such as:  Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Spain, Amsterdam, Argentina.

Alex recently partnered with Otis Fashion to teach the Junior Fashion Design course for one semester.  She had the opportunity to work along-side some of the top fashion instructors who taught her while she was in college.  It was a great opportunity for her to hone in her skills as a mentor and leader.

On her free time, Alex has created a community project called, Art in Numbers; which aims to support the creative needs of local artists through community partnerships, art shows, and fundraisers to support arts education for Los Angeles inner city youth.  Alex believes it's important for creatives to join together and make their voices heard to counteract the negativity and intolerance in our society.   Alex hopes she can make an impact on her community and the next generation of designers.
